Surprise trip!

Our family was planning on going to South Dakota to share with a church there about Wycliffe. The visit went well, and I really enjoyed sharing with them. We're praying for more people to join in this work with us through prayer and finances as a result of this trip.
Before we left for SD, I(Jared) took the car in to have the oil changed. I was informed that we needed a new timing belt, because the car had reached the 105k mile mark, and that was the recommended time for replacement. It would "only cost about $800." AAAAAAAAAAAAAA! That's a bit more than we can afford right now. I told them thank you, and that I would call my mechanic and talk with him about it.
So, I called up a friend in MN and asked him if they were telling me the truth. He told me it was time for it, and that he would be willing to do it for us, if we paid for the parts. AMEN! But that meant we would have to drive up to MN. The cool thing was, we were already heading up to SD, and that's half-way there. In fact, from where we were, it was closer to drive to MN than back to CO. So, we are now in MN on a surprise trip to get the car fixed, which is saving us approximately $500. BLESSING!
We're praying for a church to share at this Sunday in MN, we'll see what God does next. If you have one we could possibly share with, we don't mind driving there(obviously... :) )

Looking forward to the weekend!

God has been encouraging me lately. I was getting a little bummed out about where we are in our ministry right now. God has truly blessed us, in more ways than I can count, and yet my spirit was restless. Each time we hear of another friend heading out to the mission field, we rejoice with them, and yet wish we were going soon too! We're now at 70% of our needed partnership for Australia, so we're definitely growing and getting closer.
God blessed me through His Word with these verses from 2 Thessalonians 1:11 & 12:

"With this in mind, we constantly pray for you, that our God may count you worthy of his calling, and that by his power he may fulfill every good purpose of yours and every act prompted by your faith. We pray this so that the name of our Lord Jesus may be glorified in you, and you in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ."

God will provide everything we need. He will complete this work. So, with Scripture in mind, I'm not so bummed, I'll just continue to work toward what God has called us to, knowing that He will continue to provide everything we will need. :)

This weekend we have a prayer meeting and are able to share with a church in South Dakota! Praise the Lord. We're looking forward to sharing more of what God is doing and how they can be part of this work.

The New Shoes.

It has been really cool to see how God has provided for us in this short amount of time. I(Jared) was thinking about getting a new pair of shoes because my tennis shoes were nearing the end. Well, on Sunday, someone approached me and said they wanted to be part of our ministry, but the way they wanted to do it didn't materialize, so they asked if we could use any clothing or shoes! PRAISE THE LORD! They met me at a store here in CO, and I bought new tennis shoes as well as new Sunday shoes! It's neat how God chooses to use his people to provide for each other. :)
I'll be sharing with a small group tomorrow, and I'm looking forward to sharing again about the Kriol Speakers and our future work in Australia. I wonder who God is going to add to our team next. It's been a blessing to be a part of this so far. My prayer is that they would all join our team before January, so we can arrive in Australia before "The Wet", and be in Darwin during that time. Then, when the dry season comes we'll be able to go to our assignment community. If you're keeping up with this blog, please pray to that end! :) We're at 69% now, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of the finances come in.

Back From Missouri, and still going.

The weekend in Missiouri went well, and I was encouraged to be able to share with others about our work with Wycliffe and share about God's faithfulness in our lives. However, I didn't expect it to start on the plane ride over!
I sat next to a woman on the plane, and she asked me, "So, is this a business trip?" From there I told her about our involvement with Wycliffe, how God brought us to this point, and some of the stuff He's been doing lately. It was way encouraging. She told me I reminded her of her middle son, because I trimmed my beard the same way, and he was "on fire for the Lord" too. :) She told me a bit about her family, and before we knew it, the flight was over. As I was walking away from her in the terminal she approached me, gave me a gift and said, "I know this isn't much, but use it for your ministry." PRAISE THE LORD! It is so cool to see how God is at work when I'm least expecting it. Especially in a time when our economy is not the greatest. May the Lord bless her for her sacrifice.
Again, sitting outside of the airport in Denver, waiting for Cheri to pick me up, an older lady with long gray hair and a guitar sat down next to me. I asked her about herself, and found out she was a Christian. Then I shared with her(briefly) what God was doing with us, and about Wycliffe. I asked her if she would like to recieve our updates, but told her I didn't want to push paper on her. She said, "Give me whatever you've got, brother!" :) So, I gave her a partnership brochure, our newest newsletter, and a prayer card. When her rided arrived a few seconds later she gave me a big hug, and said, "God bless, brother!" and was gone. I wonder what God will do with her? But praise the Lord for that opportunity to share. I'll be praying for her until we meet again.
I wonder what he's going to do next!
We have been given the opportunity to share with a church in South Dakota. We have been blessed with the entire sermon time as well as the Sunday School hour! Pray for wisdom as to what to share and for more people to catch the vision of Bible translation, Scripture Use, and Literacy for the Kriol Speakers of Northern Australia. Thanks!

Do not worry! :) Another God sighting.

We're looking forward to this weekend, I(Jared) will be going to Missouri to share with a supporting church there. In case you check this blog, please pray for the weekend there. We're currently at 63% of our monthly financial support, so we need more monthly supporters to join us in this ministry through prayer and finances both. Pray God would bring the people who are called to be part of our team to get in contact with me over this weekend. It's only a few days away already! Wow. Time flies.

Something cool God did this past week to bless our family: We received a card from an anonymous source, with a gift card for King Soopers Grocery store, AND a gift card for Kohl's! Praise the Lord! It's just proving the Bible to be true, and our God to be faithful. He does provide for our needs.

"Therefore I tell you, do not worry aobut your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important that food, and the body more important than clothes?... So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Praise the Lord with us! :)

If you want to be involved in what God has been doing in our lives, and in the work in Australia, that would be awesome. Pray and ask God how He would have you be involved in His work. If He leads you to be part of our minstry, PRAISE THE LORD!

Life in CO so far

Cheri's in 3 Bible studies -- two mornings, with child care, to take the kids away to give Jared some time to work on Partnership Development. One in the evening with Jared's mom.

The kids have a few nursery times in the week, and the girls have just joined a Wednesday evening AWANA cubbies program! (Bethany is almost potty-trained!)

Jared is in one men's Bible study and works hard on partnership development for Wycliffe. He will also be serving in the AWANA program, helping with games or in whichever area they need more help.

We will all be visiting the doctor soon for our Australian visas! Please pray for this process.

God bless any of you out there who are reading this!

Contentment?

I was planning on calling churches this morning, but then discovered my cell phone in my pocket--batteries completely dead. BUMMER! So, it's recharging, and I'm blogging. God has done a lot lately. He brought us safely from MN to CO, gave us a new church to speak in, and hopefully(prayerfully) they will join our partnership team. If you think of us, pray for more partners. We still hope to leave by January, and I know God will provide.
I was feeling a little antsy yesterday, and sort of bummed. It seems that all of our friends from GIAL have already left, or are leaving for the mission field. I'm totally excited for them, and I'm glad they are going, but I wish we were too! I know God has a purpose for this now. I just need to stay on task and keep serving him where I am. He put us in CO for a reason, to speak at new churches and share with people what He's doing in Australia and in our lives. So we just need to be faithful where He has put us. I know He will take care of us, and we will ultimately end up exactly where He intends for us to be. So, though I feel bummed, I can reflect and realize there really isn't a reason to be discontent with where we are right now. We must simply be faithful in sharing, and God will get us there in His time (which I hope is January or so!)
It's been encouraging to see how many people have joined in our ministry and how many people have helped us along the way, and not just with financial gifts. The reason I can be content with where we are is seeing the people who have caught our vision and are excited with us to see what God has planned and want to be "in on it". We really want to include as many people as possible in this so others can experience God's faithfulness and be involved in what He is doing around the world. So, with that said, I know God will continue to add to our number, just as He has been(even if it's not as fast as I would do it...:) ). I will wait and see what God will do next, and try to remain faithful to the tasks He has laid before me.

We have found an optimal way to send out greeting cards! It's great because:
  • each individual card costs less than $1
  • we don't have to purchase cards at the store -- we send them directly from our computer!
  • They're real cards, not just e-cards.
  • They can be personalized in many ways, including our own pictures
  • We can send them to friends in the United States from Australia for the cost of a $.44 US stamp!

We joined a company called "Send Out Cards." We saw this as a real advantage and boost to our ministry and personal lives. You can check it out and get a free trial to send out a card on us, by going to this link: https://www.sendoutcards.com/80622

If you want to get this good deal on greeting cards, there are different options -- you do have to pay an entrance fee, but for the value of the cards and if you use it for many years, I think it is worth it. If you do want to start using Send Out Cards, please contact us and we can help get you started.

Cameron doing what he likes best: eating! :)

Alice and Bethany with Mommy's birthday cake

We went to Diamond Point Park to meet up with some of our friends -- just happened to be on Cheri's birthday. Some of them even came all of the way from Duluth and Brainerd to see us! It was a good reunion and fun for the kids too. 6 years ago none of us had any children, and now there are a total of 11 so far!
In the evening, Jared and Cheri went on a date -- biking, canoeing, out to eat and a movie at home...what fun!
Jared went 4-wheeling with Danny Paddock Aug 15th, and the girls went with his son, Daniel! What a blast they had :)
Jared went 4-wheeling, and on the same day the kids did too! What fun they had :)

What we're up to now!

We've been in Bemidji for over three weeks now, and we'll be here until the beginning of September. We've had opportunities to speak at several different churches, but no new churches have taken us on here. It has been encouraging to see people and share with them about Wycliffe, and our family. It's also nice to have a place we can return to to rest and relax. Earlier this summer, it felt like we were constantly in a new bed, if not every night, it was about every three nights(except for our 2 1/2 week stay in CO). We've traveled over 7000 miles this summer since leaving TX! We've been in TX, CO, WY, MT, MN, IA, MO, IL, then back to MN. We'll be moving to CO in September, where we'll reside until leaving for Australia in December '09 -January '10.
It's neat to think we've already built nearly half of our parntership team. I'm excited to see who God chooses to include in this ministry in Australia. We want to get there as soon as possible, and the folks in Australia are waiting for us and want us there as soon as possible. I know God will bring more people to be part of our financial partnership team for us to be able to leave in time. Patience. I know there are so many more people that need to hear, and God will draw the people He wants to join us in this ministry.
